Commodity Manager – Lake Bluff

A leader in the field of Metallography and Material Analysis, is seeking a Commodity Manager to develop and implement a long-term supply strategy for purchased commodities.

In this role, candidate will develop local and U.S suppliers for machine parts and metal casting; negotiate agreements; implement a progressive inventory strategy; and participate in new product development. This position provides day-to-day management of product ordered vs. received; interfaces with manufacturing as well as accounting, shipping and engineering departments; attends and actively participates in all shortage, scheduling and department meetings; and is prepared to adjust buying patterns according to changing needs. You will also forge relationships with national and international vendors to obtain the best pricing, delivery and quality; assist in program development and special projects; and travel overnight both nationally and internationally as required.

Requirements:

Qualified candidates must possess the following:
- 5+ years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
- Active problem solving abilities, with exceptional negotiation, communications and leadership skills
- Excellent computer skills in Word and Excel

We highly prefer professionals who also have:
- A Bachelor's degree in business or a technical field
- CPM or APICS Certification
- MAPICS (version 5.5) experience
- Experience in the metal working/casting industry
- Team leadership ability to manage others within the department
